Minimum Age
Minimum age of 18 with at least two consecutive years of experience as a Futsal Referee.
Game Log Form
Submit game log form with at least 30 games in a two referee system in affiliated, U16 or higher matches (for new Regional Futsal Referees only).
Online Course
Complete First Time Regional Futsal Referee course in the US Soccer Learning Center.

The FIFA Futsal Referee Test
The official fitness test for futsal soccer referees consists of three tests: Test 1, Speed, measures the referee’s maximum speed over 20 metres. Test 2, CODA, assesses the referee’s ability to change direction. Test 3, ARIET, measures the referee’s capacity to perform repeated forwards and sideways running bouts over a prolonged period.
Practical Evaluation
Minimum of three (3) evaluations as a referee in a two referee system with scores that average to an 8.0 or higher. At least two (2) at the adult amateur level, maximum of one (1) at the highest youth level (U18 or U19). Evaluations must be done by different referee coaches for all games.

Advanced Referee Training
First Time Regional Futsal Referee cost: $335
Course fee includes course fee, registration fee and evaluation fee ($75 each) for three evaluations.
SafeSport Training (online assignment) – Must complete every two years.

*If a referee needs more than three (3) evaluations, the referee is responsible for the cost of each additional evaluation at $75 each evaluation.
Background Check ($30)
This must be completed online through the Learning Center every two years. May take up to two weeks to complete and you will not be able to attend any in-person activities until it is completed – please plan ahead!

- The time in between the end of Test 1 and the start of Test 2 should be 2 to 4 minutes.
- The time between the end of Test 2 and the start of Test 3 should be 6 to 8 minutes.
- Testing should be performed on a futsal pitch or a similar surface.
- Referees must pass the FIFA Fitness Test at least once a year.
Regional Futsal Referee Fitness Testing Requirements
FIFA Futsal Referee Fitness Test – Lower Categories
Test 1: Speed
- Referees must complete 2 x 20 meter sprints
- Maximum of 3.40 seconds per trial
- Recovery consists of a maximum of 90 seconds between trials and referees must walk back to start during the recovery period.
- If a referee fails one trial out of two, they should be given a third trial immediately after the second trial. If they fail two trials out of three, the match official has failed the test.
Test 2: CODA (Change of Direction Ability)
- Referees must complete the CODA test one time.
- Referees sprint 10m forward, 8m sideways left, 8m sideways right and 10m forward. (See diagram in Fitness test explanations pdf below).
- Maximum of 10.10 seconds per trial.
- If a referee fails the trial, they should be given an additional trial. If they fail two trials, the match official has failed the test.
Test 3: ARIET (Assistant Referee Intermittent Endurance Test)
- Referees must complete 1,170 meters of the test while keeping pace with the audio file.
- Referees must start from a standing position. They must complete the following sequence in accordance with the pace dictated by the audio file.
- Run 20m forwards, turn and run 20m forwards back to the start line.
- Walk 2.5m past start line, turn and walk 2.5m back to the start line.
- Run sideways (side shuffle) 12.5m, and run sideways (side shuffle) facing the same side 12.5m back to the start line.
- Walk 2.5m past start line, turn and walk 2.5m back to the start line.
- Repeat steps a-d keeping pace with the audio file until 1,170 meters has been reached
- The starting position requires the referees to be standing still with their front foot on the start line. Referees must place a foot on the turning lines. If a referee fails to place a foot on any of the lines on time, they should receive a clear warning from the test leader. If a referee fails to arrive on time on a second occasion, they should be pulled from the test by the test leader. If a match official fails to arrive on time on a second occasion, the match official has failed the test.
