IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR RE-CERTIFYING REFEREES

Re-certifying Referees completing registration through the U.S. Soccer Learning Center must complete the following requirements:

  • Introduction to Safe and Healthy Playing Environments
  • SafeSport (if 18 years or older)
  • Online Referee Course Module
  • Re-certifying Referee Quiz
  • U.S. Soccer Federation Gold Standard NCSI Background Check (if 18 years or older)

For re-certifying referees that complete all of the above requirements prior to December 31 for the next year, badges will be mailed prior to the end of the year. Any re-certifying referee that completes all requirements after December 31, badges will be mailed on a bi-monthly basis.

Note: All requirements must be completed by June 15 in the year the referee wishes to maintain their referee license or their registration will be canceled and if the course paid for, no refund will be issued.

All Referees must complete an annual recertification.  Recertification courses are accessible through the US Soccer Learning Center.

Annual License Requirements

Online Course & Assignments
($50)

  • Recertification is online only.
  • Referees must complete all modules within the assignment tab of the course in the US Soccer Learning Center:
    • Referee Refresher Course
    • Laws of the Game Update
    • Introduction to Safe and Healthy Playing Environments
      • Refresher must be completed annually
    • SafeSport Training (only for those aged 18 and older)
      • Refresher must be completed annually

Background Screening
($30)

  • For those aged 18 and older – this must be completed every two years
  • May take up to two weeks to complete and you will not be able to attend any in-person activities until it is completed – please plan ahead!

Online Recertification Courses

Recertification courses are offered online from July through June.  Referees must realize that their License EXPIRES annually on JANUARY 1st.

Once a license has expired, a referee may not officiate any match until they have completed their recertification requirements.
