New Hampshire Supports U.S. Soccer’s Youth Referee Initiative
As part of U.S. Soccer’s nationwide Youth Referee Initiative, New Hampshire will introduce green referee badges in 2026 to identify our youngest officials—some just 13 years old—who are taking their first steps into officiating.
These youth referees are the backbone of grassroots soccer, learning on the job while helping local matches run smoothly. Yet too often they face criticism and disrespect from the sidelines—treatment that can drive passionate new officials away from the game.

Key Actions for Everyone on the Sidelines
Remember that under the U.S. Soccer Referee Abuse Prevention Policy, any abuse directed at a green-badge referee carries triple the standard penalty.
When you see a green badge, recognize it as a symbol of growth and learning.
Support every match participant—players, coaches, and referees alike—by focusing on the quality of play, effort, and sportsmanship.
Our Commitment
The New Hampshire State Referee Committee proudly stands behind this initiative. We call on coaches, players, parents, and spectators to foster a welcoming, respectful environment for our youngest officials.
Let’s lead by example and ensure New Hampshire remains a place where referees of every age are valued and respected.
