Recertification for 2020 will occur from December 2019 through March 2020 only and consists of both online components as well as a 2-hour In-Person Recertification Class. After the last class in March of 2020, no other classes will be available to recertify your license for 2020. If you plan to referee at all during 2020, please make sure to attend one of the available classes. Classes will be posted around November 1, 2019.
Also, per US Soccer, all recertifying grassroots referees will need to take the complete online course, which takes about 4.5 hours as well as modules on Safe and Healthy Playing Environments and a Grassroots Referee Quiz. If you are 18 or old, you will need to complete an NCSI background check and a SafeSport course (about 1.5 hours). You will need to clear the background check before you are able to sign up for any other courses. The background check can take up to two weeks, so it is encouraged that you do this early to ensure you are able to sign up for and attend an In-Person Recertification Class.
